Uzbekistan, on our calendar, is one live expedition and one product still being built.

The ski & culture week is what you can book now. You fly into Tashkent, ski Amirsoy, Beldersay and Chimgan for the first half, then ride the Afrosiyob train to Samarkand and Bukhara. Ten days. January to March. IFMGA-guided on the snow days, all-inclusive from New Zealand.

Culture and hiking uses the same country without the ski week. Tashkent as the gate, then the cities and the hills when they are green — spring and autumn especially. It does not run in June, July or August. It is not on sale yet. If that is what you want, tell us and we will open dates when the itinerary and price are fixed.

Do not treat the two as one holiday you can mix on the fly. Book the winter trip if you want snow this season. Register for the other if you want Uzbekistan without skis.

Why Uzbekistan

  • Ski days without a crowd

Amirsoy is a modern resort. Beldersay and Chimgan sit next door. In midwinter the lifts are quiet and the snow is still a reason to come.
  • The cities are not an add-on

Samarkand and Bukhara get two proper nights each, reached by high-speed train, not a rushed afternoon.
  • Two seasons, one country

Winter for the combined trip. Spring and autumn for walking and the same Silk Road cities. Midsummer is the gap.
  • We already run the logistics

Tashkent arrivals, resort transfers, train tickets, hotels, and guiding sit in one package on the live trip. The culture itinerary will use the same backbone.

When to go to Uzbekistan

Winter and the shoulder seasons do not compete. Book January–March if you want to ski. Use the contact form if you want a snow-free trip when we publish it.

How to choose

  • Choose the ski & culture week if you want ten days that start on snow and finish in Samarkand and Bukhara. Ability: confident piste and easy off-piste; this is not a hut-to-hut touring expedition. Access: Tashkent (TAS).

  • Choose culture & hiking if you want Uzbekistan without skis, in spring or autumn. Ability: full days of city walking and moderate hill trails. Same airport. Not on sale yet.

If you want a full ski-touring week rather than a resort-plus-cities trip, look at Jyrgalan or the Kyrgyzstan guide.

Getting there from New Zealand

  • Airports

Both itineraries meet in Tashkent (TAS). The live trip includes the transfer to Amirsoy (~1.5 hours).

  • Flights

From Auckland or Christchurch the usual pattern is a connection through Istanbul, Dubai or similar. We send a flight window after booking.
  • Entry

New Zealand passport holders can usually enter Uzbekistan visa-free for a short stay, or through the e-visa system if the rule has changed. We confirm the current requirement at booking. You remain responsible for a passport valid for the trip.
  • What is included on the live trip

Transfers, nine nights of hotels, daily breakfast, train tickets Tashkent–Samarkand–Bukhara, and guiding as listed on the trip page. International flights and travel insurance are not included. Bring your own skis or snowboard, or hire at Amirsoy if arranged in advance. Full kit list: equipment.

Who these trips are for

The ski & culture week is for skiers who want winter in the Tien Shan and two Silk Road cities in the same trip. It is not a first week on skis, and it is not a backcountry expedition.

The culture and hiking itinerary will be for travellers who want the cities and the hills, not the resort. Moderate fitness. No mountaineering grade.

Groups stay small. If the snow is thin at Amirsoy we move the ski days to Beldersay or Chimgan.
